What Sugar Sensitivity is Something You Want to Worry About

Good oral hygiene is important on so many levels. It is one thing to have brushing and flossing down. It's another to know what you are putting in your mouth in between time.

Even if you brush twice a day, you still go several hours where a lot of things can happen.

If you brush too aggressively and then eat a bunch of sugar, you could be doing a lot more damage than if you would have skipped the brushing until later. Let's go over what sugar can do to your teeth and your overall health.

What is Sugar Sensitivity?

One in three people have a sugar sensitivity. People who have a low serotonin level are more prone to an addiction to sugar. Serotonin is what controls our moods. Your addiction to sugar is generally from fructose.

Fructose can be found in fruits and processed foods or drinks, such as soda. This can be a temporary mood booster, but can also cause you to crash shortly after.

The long-term effects usually show up later in life. Warning signs may be a sensitivity to hot and cold, followed by tooth decay, and finally health problems like diabetes later on.

Too much sugar from soda or hard candy can cause cavities that can be a quick easy fix in the office, or if left go long enough, can lead to a root canal or loss of teeth.

The good news is we have tons of information for you on things you can do to change your diet and when to brush if you have to have it. Sometimes things we eat or drink are a reward for doing good and you want to treat yourself, and we do understand that. We really have no interest in yelling at you, but to inform you on what can happen from the choices you make.

We want to see you keep your teeth as long as possible and to prevent you from being in pain. Give us a call and schedule and office visit and we will be happy to get you whatever information you need and show you what to look for on nutrition labels at the store. Even if it's been a while since you've been in we can defiantly get to back on track, and looking and feeling your best.
