Stages That Are Involved in Teeth Braces

Posted on 2/6/2023 by Beautiful Smiles Office
Stages That Are Involved in Teeth BracesThe braces procedure involves several steps to have it completed. Knowing what the braces process involves can help you with the treatment. You will have to work closely with the dentist to see that your braces function effectively to align your bite. Braces work to shift teeth to target locations where they are aligned and improve bite function and oral health. The steps involved are:

Planning Stage

It is the first stage of the braces fitting process. Exams including digital x-rays, photos, and dental recordings through 3D scanning are carried out. A dentist can use the information obtained from the exams and X-rays or imaging to determine the kind of braces you deserve. The information also helps with planing and customizing the braces treatment from end to finish.

The dentist will establish whether clear aligners or traditional braces with wires are the proper treatment for you. Besides, the dentist can also provide you with pictures at this stage, to show you what your smile will look like at different stages during the treatment and after completion of the treatment.

Active Stage

Here is where the actual bite-straightening action happens. As the braces do their work, teeth-supporting ligaments are loosened. Jawbones and tissue breakdown occurs. The teeth shift and align from the force exerted by the braces. You need not worry. It is a painless stage and treatment depends on an individual's diagnosis.

There will be adjustments of the braces or wires as the teeth shift. The brackets and wires may feel loose since the teeth have moved to newer positions. You will have to make a trip to our office for adjustments.

Retention Stage

It is the last step in orthodontic treatment. After the active stage is done, the patient wears a retainer to maintain the teeth in their new targeted position. The retainers ensure that your freshly positioned teeth will not go back to the bad positions they were before. You can wear the retainers most of the time, just like you did with the braces. Our dentist will, however, provide you with more instructions on how you should be wearing the retainers.
