Problems with Not Treating Acute Oral Pain

Occasionally, everyone feels a new ache or pain, but they think it might go away if given a little time. When it comes to acute oral pain, however, you never want to try to wait it out. Your oral health is connected to your overall health in many ways, so you want to schedule a visit to our office immediately or visit the emergency room is you have severe acute oral pain. Acute Oral Pain: A Sign of Something Bigger Acute oral pain can be a sign of multiple issues, including an impacted wisdom tooth, advanced tooth decay around a nerve, a dental abscess or gum disease that could be eating away at both your gums and your tooth roots. If left untreated, the issue will only worsen, causing more severe pain or tooth loss. In the worst cases, oral surgery may be necessary. We can treat all of these issues in our office, but there is no need to way until the problem advances. Pain or Soreness in the Jaw Pain in your jaw can be a sign of a serious condition, such as TMJ disorder or Bruxism, which causes someone to grind their teeth in their sleep. Teeth grinding can wear down teeth to the point of affecting your jaw joints. We can address both of these conditions in your treatment plan and may provide you with a custom-fitted mouthguard to prevent teeth grinding. Neither of these conditions should continue without professional dental support. There's no reason to live with oral pain, as most conditions are easily treatable. Dental issues typically don't correct themselves, so schedule an appointment with our office immediately for mild to severe pain or visit the closest emergency room if the pain is intolerable and it is after hours....
